I graduated from Southern in 2021 with BS in Biochemistry and a minor in Philosophy. I currently work as a Technical Service Chemist at Milestone in Shelton, CT. In my time at Southern, I successfully defended a thesis about X-Ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy, participated in a biochemistry internship, and developed proficient technologically based skills.

My experiences as a student at Southern equipped me with many skills and opportunities to allow for my success today. In November of 2021, I was the second-place finalist in the Project Blue Entrepreneurship Pitch Competition. In the lead up to this presentation, I worked with CT Next in a lab to develop a sustainable kelp vitamin. I was then presented with the opportunity to pitch this product and business plan to a board of panelists. Participating in this event required the application of my STEM based skillset and called upon business planning and public speaking skills. This opportunity propelled me to co-found Deep Blu Chu and strengthen my pitch promotion skills as a market influencer.

As a proud Southern Alumni, my advice to current students is to take full advantage of the available supports and opportunities.  The BioPath program assisted me throughout the preparation and acquisition of my undergraduate internship. The team offered support with updating and revising my resume as well as mock interviews. I believe the mock interviews gave me an edge in the hiring process, boosting my confidence and preparing for a variety of potential questions. Additionally, I urge current students to learn about their fields of interest and gain tactile experience prior to entering the career force. In researching and drafting my thesis, I gained invaluable knowledge about X-Ray Fluorescence and related technologies. I also physically applied this knowledge in an immersive experience working in the lab at CT Next. These experiences provided clarity about my interests in the Biochemistry field and equipped me with skills to be an asset to any company.
