Communication Coordinator

The SCSU i-HUB is seeking a highly motivated individual with experience in communications and event management. Candidates must be available to work 30 or more hours per week with 75% of their time in-person during normal business hours (8:30am – 4:30pm, Monday-Friday). This position will involve a combination of remote work as well as in-person events and meetings, some of which will be off-site.  

Position’s Primary Responsibilities: 

  1. Support the execution of communication plans including but not limited to email and social media messaging, brand role-out, circulation of advertisements or flyers 
  2. Support event management 
  3. Support the development and implementation of smaller engagements with SCSU students and on-campus partners 
  4. Support media engagement including curation of media releases 
  5. Lead updating and maintaining of websites 
  6. Lead graphic design, especially to support social media engagement and public outreach  
  7. Lead monitoring and tracking timesheets for student workers 
  8. Support monitoring of accounts and spending 


Secondary Responsibilities 

  1. Support cross-institutional engagement with on-campus departments, faculty, and staff 
  2. Support oversight and guidance for student workers and graduate assistants on our team 
  3. Support external relations with community and industry partners 
  4. Support grant reporting and fundraising efforts 
  5. Support on-boarding efforts for new team members

Ideal candidates will have had 2 or more years of experience in a communications capacity.

Applicants must possess strong written and verbal communication skills, creative problem-solving skills, and an ability to lead high-level group projects with limited supervision in a tactful, strategic, and professional manner. The chosen candidate should be well versed in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. 

A background or experience in marketing, communications, or event management as well as individuals with cultural competence and documented experiences working with those historically underrepresented individuals in STEM are strongly preferred. Experience with graphic design, video editing, or web design are pluses. Those with a background in or interest in STEM and Education are also highly encouraged to apply. Furthermore, applicants must be interested in helping students and having a positive impact on the Southern community more broadly.
